The Dream that Kicks presents: The Artists Cinema
Benjamin Cook, Director of LUX; a UK-based arts agency which supports and promotes artists working with the moving image, is visiting Grimstad to present The Artists Cinema.
The Artists Cinema is a UK commissioning programme organised by LUX and The Independent Cinema Office. Each year a selection of international artists are commissioned to produce short films which are inserted between commercials and features to consciously respond to, comment on, interrupt and reflect on the cinema context. The films usually show on their own and appear unannounced before features, for cinema audiences the Artists Cinema opens a small window into the contemporary art world while at the same time giving artists access to a space and an audience they may not usually reach. This special programme presents the latest commissions along with a couple of favourite films from past years. The Dream That Kicks is a monthly screening, connecting artists from different ages, movements and cultures in thematic fusions. The aim is to let these films be seen, without compromise and without apology. We present the fantastic, the problematic, the beautiful, the dangerous, the brilliant and the ugly. An experiment in looking, it has been running since January 2010 at the Oslo Cinematek.
The Artist Cinema is presented in co-operation with LUX Film, The Dream That Kicks and Atelier Nord.
